NJAMLE 2017 Conference Reflection

NJAMLE Reflection

By AJ Bianco

On March 10th, 2017, a large group of Middle School Educators had the opportunity to gather together and celebrate our passions for teaching at the Middle School level. This year, the annual NJAMLE Conference centered around the topic of Finding the Joy in the Middle. As Middle School educators, we understand the challenges and the successes of teaching students in these grades. Link to 2017 Conference Resources

We know that we have to be on top of our game each and every day to get our students entertained, excited and engaged. From the Keynote, by the hilarious Dr. Debbie Silver, to the outstanding and relevant sessions, these Middle School educators were able to see that there are others who share their passions, have the same fears and experience similar obstacles. Since I started teaching at the Middle School level, I have heard numerous times about how crazy I must be for teaching “this age”.  It’s been my belief since my first day, that if we aren’t having fun, we aren’t actually learning! I have to say, that teaching “this age” is the most fun I have ever had! Personally, I am still a kid at heart, and I feel like my students allow me to let that side out, when the time is appropriate.

Coming together as passionate educators who are looking to create a better experience for our students, to learn new techniques, share our successes and build off of our failures are the reasons why this conference is so powerful. If you were not able to attend the annual NJAMLE conference, you need to find a way to make to the 2019 conference! We are already planning it and know that it is going to be an amazing experience for all Middle School educators. Also coming to our region is AMLE's annual conference this fall! Please come and join us in Philadelphia this November - Link to AMLE 2017 Annual Conferenc.
